COOK BOOK project

jamaican cook book

This is my waiting Journey. I am 100% Jamaican.  Both my mother and my father were born there, and I love everything about the culture.  The colors, the food, the music, the dance, the people, the men.. lol. I will represent my Jamaican culture anywhere I go, but yet there is a slight disconnect. …I can’t comfortably cook Jamaican food! It is one of those things I just didn’t grow up with.

My mother wasn’t a big cook, and my father wouldn’t have time for it, so I never really learned it.  It is only recently that I thought to myself “hey, why don’t you cook Jamaican?” If I were ever to have kids some day, I want them to be connected to some of my Jamaican culture.  I think one of the best ways to do that is with food.

So here is my cookbook project.  The cook book above has been in my family for years.  I’ve always seen it, never really used it, flipped through it for the names of certain foods, but I think now it is time to use it.

I will select a recipe or 2 out of this cookbook each weekend, and cook it.  I will practice and take notes so I can improve recipes and I will LEARN TO COOK JAMAICAN!

Good luck. My parents were born in India and I in the U.S so I’ve been playing catching learning to cook.

Great idea Dione! I’m expecting some dishes when you come to my house.

Sounds like something I should do with haitian food.
